Thrifting...

A few Saturday's ago a dear sweet friend of mine and I went thrifting from morning till night. It was such a fun way to spend a day. We started off in a small town in my neck of the woods and stopped at every antique store or thrift store between my town and hers. Since I think we are right in the heart of small town Texas there were quite a few to visit.

I tried to follow the rules of thrifting:

1. Don't go with a list (OK so I broke this one right off! I really want some little kids chairs - the simple ladder back will do just fine! Didn't find any...boo hoo!)

2. Buy what you are drawn to and fits into your budget...don't worry too much about it being perfect...you can work on that later (cleaning, painting, recovering, shining, etc.)

3. If it is overpriced...don't buy it...while this seems to be a polar opposite of the rule above...when thrifting don't break the bank...eventually, if you look long enough one of 2 things will happen. Either you will eventually realize that the overpriced piece isn't something you need or 2 you will stumble upon it at a garage sale or a Goodwill 1/2 price day for rock bottom...then snatch whatever it is up and smile really big, because those are the moments we thrifters shop for!!!

So while trying to follow the above rules I came home with some neat finds...some are perfect as is and others need a little tweaking, (but for me that is the fun part).

So from left to right, back row first:

I found a brown stool that needs to be painted and recovered for the upstairs vanity.

I found another little stool, its legs are metal and decorative and looks as if it could have once been part of an antique sewing machine set. I will paint and recover it for 11 year old dear daughters bathroom.

The last little stool I found will also be painted and recovered for my bathroom.

In front:

The 2 most unusual and fun finds of the day are these old screen door frames. Just think of them vertical on the front of a swinging screen door on a house from the 50's...remember yet? These are going to be fun to hang and I will show you that project later this week.

On top:

A great blue and white fruit bowl for the dining room and a pink wicker trash can for the 4 year old and 8 year old's room.

My total receipts for the day came to $56.82. Financially it is a little high for my idea of thrifting but we mainly shopped antique stores, next time I will try Goodwill and garage sales. I was excited with my finds and I'm excited to have projects to do. It was a great day and will definitely make the year end recap as one of my top ten great days this year, not because of the finds but because of great company...thanks Aimee!
