Works for me Wednesday, backwards!

So today is backward WFMW! Instead of telling everyone what wonderful wisdom I have to impart, I'm asking a question and hoping to gain many exciting words of tried and true knowledge! So here is my question:

What is a reasonable amount of money to budget for clothing for a family of 6? (4 kids, 9-7-5-and 2 and 2 adults, 3? and 3?)

So that is my boring and responsible question. My hubby I would be ever so thankful for your input!

So after you come to my aid, see if you are able to help out any other desperately seeking soul at Rocks in my Dryer!

I don't know, but I know that when helping people fill budgets in over here, the Citizens Advice Beureau advise £100 per month for a family of 4. That seems an awful lot to me, we get our hair cuts out of that as well and still have some left over some months.

According to Crown Financial Ministries, clothing should be 5%-7% of your budget, after tithe and taxes. They suggest here that your minimum should be $10 per person per month, or $60 per month for a family of six.

Great question.

I did 5% and that's a lot of money for us. Some months I will spend that (when we're about to go on holiday) but on average, we probably spend about 3 - 3,5%

or I'm cheap! LOL

Hi. I don't have an actual budget. But we shop at garage sales and thrift stores. I only go when I need something, not just want to shop. I just spent $50 at the thrift store yesterday and got 1 and a half giant bags full of clothes. Mostly for my daughter to take her through the winter. My 5 yo never needs clothes because he gets all of his from my 9 yo. Same goes for my 1 yo. Although I do pick up a few things for him because I do end up getting rid of things that are out of style. For shoes, we go shoe shopping in the fall and spring and I usually get them at kohls when I have a coupon. I used to go to payless, but they just don't have anything nice anymore. And I try to spend around $15 a pair. I hope this helps.

aahh... budgets are no fun... but apart of life huh... I only do major shopping twice a year. You can find Summer stuff on sale in September at department stores. I bought some regularly $100 items for $15 at Macy's timing is everything... End of August and Begining of September and End of Februrary Begining of March you'll see winter items on sale. I also shop at Ross and Marshalls for name brand clothing at discount prices. I get all the kids play clothes at Wal mart for $3 per shirt. Its a tough question but I spend about $150 per person a year.Sometimes less because my kids pass clothes down to each other and so does my family...!

Shoot, everyone needs to move to Germany where the parents gets $150.00 per month per kid from the government until age 18. However, the tax of your paycheck is 50%. Go figure. But if you are an American stay at home mom, it is a pretty good deal.

Dave Ramsey has Financial Peace University, and he also recommends 5-7%.

He has online classes available, or they are often offered at churches. They are $96 for 13-weeks, and it will be the best money you ever spend. He teaches you how to budget for and pay CASH for everything! www.daveramsey.com

Liz...thanks for stopping by...we are doing fine...I guess I need to post something up to date huh??? Anyway, as far as the budget thing goes...I am not the one to ask! But I do agree that the Dave Ramsey thing is GREAT...Carlton and I did do the Financial Peace University through our church and until we had kids we were doing great. BUT we have been very neglectful of a budget lately! I guess that could be a prayer request.

I also shop a lot at resale shops for the girl...I don't find a lot for the boy at them, but I do shop a lot from CLEARANCE racks...Clearance is my friend. I just love it when he stamps his name all over everything!!!

Hey Liz, thanks for the book suggestion. I will try to find that one. Carlton is always telling me how good a mommy and wife I am, but personally I feel quite ugly a lot. Maybe it is just the nature of disciplining children or being a wife and I just take it really personal. I don't know...something I am sorting through.

Thanks Again,
Angie
